Project Development & Documentation
Overview of the Project Development & Documentation Division
The Project Development & Documentation division will evaluate objectives associated with the integration and documentation of building systems, material selection, and material assemblies into a project. The division will concentrate on matters pertaining to the development of design concepts, evaluation of materials and technologies, selection of suitable construction techniques, and appropriate construction documentation. Candidates are required to exhibit knowledge and skills in the integration of civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and specialty systems into the overall project design and documentation.

This division is divided into five sections, each focusing on a different aspect of PDD. In parentheses, you’ll find the expected number of items (questions) of each section in the PPD exam.

Section 1: Integration & Coordination of Building Systems
This section focuses on the integration and coordination of building systems and technologies within a project. It focuses on solving and detailing systems and assemblies.
Section 2: Construction Documentation
This section delves into the creation of project documentation. It covers the preparation of drawings and specifications that communicate the design intent and guide the construction of a project.
Section 3: Project Manual & Specifications
This section focuses on the preparation of a project manual and specifications. It covers the organization, coordination, and preparation of project-specific information that guides the construction of a project.
Section 4: Codes & Regulations
This section focuses on the codes and regulations that govern architectural projects. It covers the application of building codes, accessibility standards, and other regulatory requirements. Contrary to other divisions, it looks at codes and regulations at a detail level and how they relate to project documentation.
Section 5: Construction Cost Estimates
The last section focuses on the construction cost and estimates. It only contains one objective and is the smallest section in the division.
